All that remains now is to try to make it through next week at work before going on leave without going crazy thinking about all the stuff I want to check out when I get to the track.

With Williams breaking cover and signing up, FOTA had no real choice but to suspend them to save face. You can see both sides of the argument on that one, I think they were both in the right as Williams can’t pull out of F1 and FOTA can’t been seen to give in easily.

I’m sure all of this guff will blow over as soon as it started, we’ll be back to drivers bitching about super licence costs before you know it!

From what I’ve been reading, the teams and the FIA couldn’t thrash out a deal in London on Friday so they’re still in deadlock. Diplomacy (or French judges) will have to decide the outcome, hopefully with a few teams left in F1!
I think some people need to take their sensible pills and try to get this resolved. A grid without Ferrari, Renault, Red Bull and Toyota? Worrying for any fan of F1.

Please tell me this isn’t just some childish power play from Mosley, the press would have a field day and the sport would lose out horrifically. Come on boys and girls, sort it out so we can go racing next year.

Oddest of all however, I’ve been reading that Barrichello is claimed to have said he would quit the sport if he discovered the Brawn team was favouring Button’s car. I find this utterly gobsmacking when the stuff I’ve read has pretty much said the opposite. Its the equivalent of someone saying “I’ll eat my hat if…”.
Brawn was always the good apple in the pile of mush that was the morally ambiguous Ferrari team of yesteryear. If he says there’s no favouritism, there isn’t any. That’s that.

Now on to the more comedy side of this week’s news. Ferrari and co saying they’ll quit F1 if the FIA don’t talk properly to the teams before handing down supreme judgements from on high. News flash lads, there is no FIA without the teams, grow up, realise that F1 is meant to be the pinnacle of motorsport, deal with it and move the hell on. Idiots!
To say I’m on the side of the teams would be an understatement. I’ve watched too many seasons decided by court battles and off track deals already. You throw in two sets of rules for the teams to scream about and its going to be utter bedlam.

I know many would consider this to be the exact opposite of my usual opinion of McLaren, I think its fabulous that for once the championship has managed a number of rounds now without a single court ruling fouling up the whole thing. Rear diffuser legality, suspended three race bans; this is motorsport being run by the sane at last. Brilliant, now let’s get racing.

OK, belated again but here’s my take on the whole Bahrain race result.
We finally got to see the true pace of the cars for this season (well, the early part of it anyhow). Although you’d have to be certified nuts to think that the cars will remain the same all season, it can be an indicator of what may be to come for the foreseeable future at least.

Aware I’m rambling, I’ll cut this one short. Brawn GP need to improve their car if they’re going to win this season. Button’s wringing that thing’s neck and winning but that can only last so long. Ferrari need to burn their car and start again. There, I said it!

What I wanted to do was wait until the diffuser row had finally blown over before commenting on what was a thoroughly bizarre race weekend for F1. McLaren caught blatantly cheating – resulting in suspension then resignation for Ryan, crazy driving conditions and a race the only yielded half points. You don’t see any of that very often (apart from rain in Malaysia when the sun goes down).

I can’t help but agree that the race should’ve ended up like that, expecting even millionaire drivers to cope with those conditions was a bit of a big ask. Shame they couldn’t just do what Moto GP did at their first race in Qatar last weekend, run it the day after to complete the race distance. Its silly but its a thought!

Reading how it looks like heavy rain in China on Sunday, you can’t help but try to imagine a Ferrari with oars!

With that in mind I started my traditional hunt for the obligatory supporters merchandise. Its at this point that you realise just how new the team is!! Three coats (all about £100) and a cap are all you can buy right now. The web site at www.BrawnGP.com is a little basic (not as basic as this one!) but does the job well and centralises stuff like the team’s YouTube presence, merchandising and so on; so I assume we won’t be waiting too long for more stuff to go on there and become available.
