Just Made Me Chuckle

I don’t know why but this little vid always cracks me up. The parents are doing a great job of miming and the little ones in the back are completely oblivious. A lot of my friends who are parents could probably pull this off too as their is nothing like looking after kids if you want to learn entire movies’ soundtracks!

Once again, sorry! 😀

Making a Start with PowerShell

I’ve recently been challenging myself to learn a bit more conversational PowerShell as is where and the effort is beginning to pay off.
As with most programming or scripting languages, the going is slow to start off with (you don’t even know the comment character so you feel completely useless!) but it is making more and more sense the more I’m using it.

Basic operations can feel incredibly clunky but once you get why you have to do the hoop jumping by moving on to more complex scenarios, the necessity for accuracy become blatantly obvious.
I’m going to work through a few examples on here over the next couple of weeks so you can see the mad scientist side of my brain at work. Please bear in mind however, I am still learning. What you see here may not be the optimal solution but it will work I promise.

Also, although I know most people are ahead of this, I’m going to concentrate where possible on Windows 7’s version of PowerShell. It’s what we’re running at work and the scripts produced should be compatible with later versions. If I find differences, I’ll document them. 🙂

My New Toy Has Arrived

Hello again!
As usual, I’ve not had a post up for a while so I thought I’d bring you in on a new toy I’ve discovered called the Adafruit Trinket. It comes in two flavours, a 3.3v and a 5v (5v being my preference) and has an ATTiny85 chip on board. Now, I’ve experimented with the ATTiny85 before, I’ve been playing with them for quite a while working on projects that only use a very limited number of logic pins (there are very few on the ATTiny85, hence that Tiny part of it’s name).

Adafruit Trinket 5v

Adafruit have done something very special though. What they’ve done is added a USB bootloader to the chip so that it can communicate directly with a PC, sort of. You can program it via USB without any kind of programmer hardware and when it’s plugged in to a PC, it can mimic a HID (that’s Human Interface Device in case you wanted to know, think keyboard, mouse, that kind of thing) so it’s perfect for the project I have in mind. I’m planning a panic button that with send the Windows + M key at the press of a button to minimise all windows in um… Windows when pressed. It’s a simple proof of concept but the little Trinket is more than up to the task. If you take a look at this project on the Adafruit site, you can see its capable of much more than I’m asking of it.

Anyway, I just thought I’d keep you clued in on what I’m up to. If I get a chance I’ll either get a video or at least a few photos up here for the panic button project.

Hangover cure for the day: Be Brave

I have no idea why the hell this song has been going through my head all morning but in it’s defense, it’s hard not to cheer up when I hear it! 🙂

Apparently people are saying Katy Perry’s Roar is a rip off of this song. Although the first twenty seconds sound kinda familiar, I’m not completely convinced.

What I can tell you is that I apparently need to listen to more Slayer!!

BNL Song to Make Your Day!

Loving the Barenaked Ladies song on the Rooster Teeth channel the guys at the SourceFed website were kind enough to point out.

All together now “The odds are that we will probably be all right!”  😀
