I know, I know! I keep on about creating themes but I’m determined to get my head around it!
I’ve been having quite a few successes getting a better idea of the processes involved now so I just need to get the details right and I’ll be able to theme this site with its very own look (as opposed to the customised theme already in place).
Its all quite fascinating, I’ll get a resource list up here of the sites I’m using to get the finer points soon.
Now all I need to do is work out what colour scheme I’m going for…
Right then, I’ve had my Acer Aspire 5552 for a while now so I thought I’d throw an update on here about how its all going.
In short, its pretty darn good! The keyboard may not be the best thing in the world to type on but it has very little flex in it and I seem to be able to type quite accurately on it. The touchpad (with its multitouch possibilities) is very nice to use so no complaints there either.
The biggest bugbear has to be the screen on this thing. The vertical viewing angle is very narrow and pretty much everything appears washed out or lacking colour. I’m not too fussy so its not a major thing for me but it can get a little annoying, especially if you’re trying to show somebody something on-screen. Photo editing is impossible though so I connect to a monitor using HDMI for that.
Windows 7 has remained quite snappy on this and even HandBrake video conversions for my iPhone are bearable. All in all, you can tell this laptop was built to price but for the basics and even a couple of more advanced things, it does the job quite well.
I can safely say that I have a renewed and deeper respect for those in the WordPress community that create themes and plugins today.
I’ve been reading up on the subject and although I understand many of the underlying subjects, I’m very far from truly being able to believe I can even have a crack at creating a theme. It involves a skill set far greater than mine in regard to graphic design and, well every other part of the job.
I’m not beaten but I’m challenged!! Fair play to you boys and girls, my hat’s off to you!
