Room to Swing a Cat

As I’m sure most of you know from previous posts, my beloved, her majesty is a sculptor who runs her own company (Cat’s Eye Carving).

Well, this week we moved the contents of her workshop over from the Tithe Barn in Brockworth to Taurus Crafts in the Forest of Dean. It’s safe to say that I’ve not had a workout like that in a while. HUGE bits of stone, workbenches, toolboxes, power tools, an engine hoist and a couple of trolleys and sack trucks needed to be moved. It wasn’t the easiest few days work but we got it done! 🙂

Anyhow, her majesty and I are really looking forward to seeing how this move works out, it’s a long commute for her but the opportunity was just too good to miss. She opens her doors on Monday, the first day of half term, with a project of carving a wild boar before the week is out. Having seen her working, that’s an achievable goal! She’s very fast when she gets to work on a stone, it’s fascinating stuff!!

Good luck honey, you’re gonna do great at Taurus! 🙂

Clock Tower, Palace of Westminster

Clock Tower, Palace of Westminster, originally uploaded by Ed Francis.

On a recent jaunt for work, I was able to spend a bit of time walking in London. This is one of the results.

Shot on my iPhone and fiddled with once I got home! 😀

Acer Aspire R3700

Looking on Ebuyer today, I spotted that the Acer Aspire Revo R3700 is now available for pre-order. Having used the R3600 for about a year and a half for blogging and photo editing (on an Atom processor!) I am well and truly going to get an order in for the new one. Memory and hard drive space tend to be the only real stumbling blocks I’ve found with the current model, yes its not exactly the highest powered CPU either but it does the job a heck of a lot quicker than a netbook would.

The R3700 comes in flavours that have more memory, larger hard disks and importantly more powerful CPUs than my current workhorse (well, pony) so I’m obligated to go for the purchase.

The old R3600? Don’t worry, I have many plans for this little thing. More about that later. 🙂

Nice to see its all gone

Snow

Call me a killjoy but I rather glad to be shot of all that snow!
I’ve got a few more shots but I thought this one was the best. As you can see, getting out in it was not a priority. (I’m blaming a bad back but I’m actually a grinch when it comes to that white b*****d stuff!)

It got worse after this was taken but I was too busy trying to work out how to get to work to bother taking photos of it! 😀

Geeking Out

rock paper scissors lizard spock

Rock - Paper - Scissors - Lizard - Spock

Well, its very nice to finally have my PC properly set up at the new place. I was starting to get withdrawal symptoms as the only PCs I was ever on seemed to be work ones that were broken!

In honour of the nice new desk and creative cabling, I rewarded myself with an entire day of playing about with all our WordPress installs dotted around the web. As you know, Her Majesty runs Cat’s Eye Carving so I got the chance to run a few backups and clear out some older stuff from the tables behind her site.

I also got to try and copy her site down to my PC so that I could run it on WAMP Server, I nearly got the replica working but I’m stuck on one final part (permalinks are failing, it’ll be an easy fix!). I’ll get a post up here once I figure out what the problem is, I know its my settings in the WordPress installation but I just need to get an idea what I’ve done.
I really can’t tell you how useful and brilliant WAMPServer is, I’ve got a local test install (in addition to the replica version of Cats Eye Carving I’ve been playing with) and its brilliant for trialling things without the world being able to watch as you nail your website to the wall with a failed experiment.

As I’m sure you know, I’m in the process of trying to wrap my head around themes in WordPress so I can create my own from scratch. Its going well but mostly because WAMPServer is letting me make all my mistakes on this PC not some random test site I’ve had to bring up.

See what I mean? I’ve had a great day geeking out to the max, its been brilliant! 😀
